Amur 2022

New Release
Known as the Amur grape, this variety is part of the vitis Amurensis family, a winter-hardy grape native to southern Siberia and northern China. Its name comes from the Amur Valley in Russia and China. The vine is early ripening, resistant to frost, and thrives in cold climates.

In the glass, the Dr. Konstantin Frank 2022 Amur presents a vibrant violet color that catches the eye with its intensity and depth. On the nose, there’s an enticing blend of jammy blackberry and rich red cherry, offering a concentrated fruit character. As you take a sip, the palate opens up with lush flavors of dark, ripe berries, followed by a subtle, refreshing touch of eucalyptus that adds an intriguing layer of complexity.

The structure of this wine is bold, supported by firm, grippy tannins that give it a robust texture. A lively black pepper spice carries through the finish, enhancing the wine’s overall richness and leaving a lasting impression. Full-bodied and expressive, this wine is a standout, delivering both power and finesse. Perfect for pairing with hearty dishes or enjoying on its own.

VINEYARD NOTES

Our Amur vines were planted in the early 1980s on our 0.97-acre Keuka Estate vineyards. Willy Frank experimented with this grape variety, hoping to find a red variety that would produce a richer wine. The shallow, shale-based soils in our Keuka vineyards contribute minerality, acidity, and elegance to the wine.

WINEMAKER NOTES

The 2022 harvest was a special year for us as we celebrated our 60th harvest since the founding of our winery in 1962. The grapes this year were exceptional, albeit low in quantity due to a few -10F nights in January. After overcoming the winter adversity, spring sprung beautifully on time and summer was hot and dry. The dry days and cool nights played a major role in developing aromatic qualities in smaller concentrated berries. The wines from this vintage are profound and striking, combining the best elements of cool and hot vintages collectively.
